I purchased the Battle-Ready Metal Beard/Batman set mainly
because Metalbeard is my all-time favorite LEGO Movie character, and I really
like the looks of the new ‘crab-mech’ iteration of the crusty old sea-dog.
A small aside: I am a big fan of “International Talk Like A
Pirate Day (Sept. 19), so naturally, I’m drawn to the Metalbeard persona.
Though not as complicated or complex as the larger
Metalbeard from the first movie, this newer rendition still has a lot of nice
features and detailing.
The Metalbeard figure was built per the set instructions –
nothing really needs to be added there.
For my display ‘vignette’ I chose to make an uneven base surface
from tan plates, with a few random ‘shipwreck’ pieces scattered about at
Metalbeard’s ‘feet’. Sticking out of the
simulated sand-blown surface next to Metalbeard is a large sign spelling out
the pirate’s essential six ‘Laws of the Sea’, which appear briefly in one scene of
the original movie.
Though definitely not an official LEGO part, the sign itself
is printed on ‘antique’ card stock, and is cut to size so that the surrounding
frame of parts holds it securely in place.
A very philosophically ‘deep’ MOC/Set build in my humble
opinion!
